John R. Scardina, Ed., M.
My Story
I learned to be a man from my own father in the 1950's - think of On the Waterfront (actual) and Father Knows Best (aspirational). I embraced the 1960's with wild abandon - think of the Grateful Dead, hitchhiking, and communal living. I became a father in the 1970's and struggled to make a living as a teacher and musician, not achieving the usual benchmarks for masculine success in the white patriarchy. I rose to the level of my incompetence as a school administrator in the 1980's and internalized the violence of male privilege through self-medication and arrogance.
I finally became sick and tired of being sick and tired at age 38. Since then it's been a long road of recovery, finding ways to embrace positive masculinity and to develop ways for men to grow together and prosper as positive role models for each other and their sons.
"Men need to talk to other men."
Working with John has been a transformative experience. From the moment I began our sessions, I felt an instant connection and comfort thanks to his warm, empathetic, and caring nature. — Steve F.
My Approach
This journey we call life has many pathways. Outward passages are the movie we show to others – a romance, a tragedy, a comedy. Inward passages are the conversations we have with ourselves and the universe.
How we manage the connection between our outward and inward lives can be a dance or a stumble, a joy or a hardship, a smooth sail or a shipwreck.

My work is primarily as a listener. Yes, I will set up the parameters for a conversation or an exercise - that's what coaches do - but you will be the author of your own story. I will be the witness - at times a silent presence, at other times a reflecting pool or echo chamber. Clarifying questions will be used as catalysts to move things along, but even feeling stuck can be a gift.
John Scardina takes the time to learn his clients and tailors his sessions to meet their needs, offering wisdom and guidance while encouraging reflection and personal growth.
